The Earth is Square stands as a work of precision and daring, a convergence of disciplines, cultures, and visions. It is a beginning.
A world where gravity is stronger and the sun rises at a perfect ninety degrees
Home to people who breathe in sync
Who care for each other, and for every step the other takes
Never falling out of line
Never looking over the edge
But there is one, curious
Stealing peeks beyond the edge
Falling, just a little, out of line.
The Earth is Square is Maison Megh’s debut production, a bold testament to the brand’s vision of what creative collaboration and art can become. Three months in the making, it brings together worlds of craft, movement, and light into a singular, immersive work.
The entire film unfolds within a monumental 8ft x 8ft x 4ft wooden cube, designed and built exclusively for the production, a space that is both stage and sculpture, constraint and possibility. Drawing from the intensity of Czech theatre, the cube becomes a vessel for vivid, contrasting colour and light, shaping an atmosphere that feels at once surreal and intimate.
At its core are six performers, each a master of a distinct discipline, from the grounded elegance of Bharatanatyam to the precision of theatre, the defiant fluidity of vogueing to the pulse of hip hop. Together, they form a cast that moves as one, yet retains the individuality of their forms, creating a choreography that breathes, collides, and transforms.
Their movement is bound to an original, a cappella inspired score, created in collaboration with singers and music directors, and produced exclusively for this film. Stripped of instrumentation yet layered with human texture, the soundtrack becomes both heartbeat and voice, carrying the narrative with raw immediacy.
